Sydney Woman Arrested On Drug Charges In China Cleared, Returned Home

There’s been some somewhat good news in the case of 22 year-old Sydney woman Kalynda Daviswho was arrested and detained in the Chinese city of Guangzhou and accused of attempting to import 75kg of methamphetamines out of the country and into Australia.

With the assistance of the Australian Consulate-General, Davis has apparently since been released from custody and returned to Australia.
Davis was arrested over the weekend with her New Zealand partner Peter Gardiner when airport security officials allegedly discovered the concealment in their luggage.
China’s legal system is extraordinarily strict, and similar cases indicated that the chances of an innocent verdict, should the case against Davis have progressed, were extremely slim. Given the amount of the drug involved in the accusations, a death sentence would have almost certainly have been applied.
Davis’ family confirms she has been returned home, which they assert is evidence that she has been cleared of all charges. They thanked the assistance of the Consulate-General and its staff in assisting in returning her home to them.
The fate of Davis’s partner Peter Gardiner, however, currently remains unknown.
