State Government Names NSW’s Most Violent Venues, Announces Drop In Violent Crime

The New South Wales government have officially named the State’s most violent venues—as determined by the number of violent incidents recorded—from the past twelve months.

Releasing data on violent crime at NSW venues today, Deputy Premier Troy Grant announced a massive drop in violent crime at venues in the past twelve months has taken place, citing a 39% drop in “serious incidents”.

Grant attributed the drop in crime in Sydney venues to lockout laws – restrictions which were put in place in May last year.

The government’s list today shows six fewer venues than 2014’s name and shame game – with venues like The World Bar in King’s Cross and Cheeky Monkey’s in Byron Bay seeing a reduction in serious incidents this year. Both venues were unofficially congratulated on their lessening of dickhead levels by dodging this year’s list.

Great job.

Of the 13 venues listed today, only three are located in the Sydney region; Merivale’s The Ivy, however, took out the list’s top spot for the third year in a row – with 23 serious incidents recorded as opposed to last year’s 24.

While The Ivy has taken out the [non] coveted gold medal once again, the venue is undisputedly the largest venue of the lot, so the sheer amount of punters flowing through the Ivy’s doors might lessen their placing on the list – if incidents per capita were taken into account.

Grant, however, addressed that argument, telling the ABC:

“If they [The Ivy] have that many people coming through their premises, they have to respond with the resources to stamp out the violence. Until they do, they will… face continually heavier sanctions.”

New South Wales’ thirteen most violent venues, based on the number serious incidents recorded in the last year, are as follows:

The Ivy, Sydney – 23 incidents
Beachcomber Resort and Conference Centre, Toukley – 12 incidents
Plantation Hotel, Coffs Harbour – 16 incidents
Terrigal Hotel, Terrigal – 16 incidents
Central Coast Hotel, Gosford – 14 incidents
Oaks Hotel, Neutral bay – 15 incidents
Home Nightclub, Sydney – 13 incidents
Hotel Chambers, Sydney – 12 incidents
Hotel Henry Rous, Ballina – 13 incidents
Miranda Hotel, Miranda – 12 incidents
PJ’s Irish Pub, Parramatta – 12 incidents
The Macarthur Tavern, Campbelltown – 12 incidents
Theatre Royal Broken Hill, Broken Hill – 12 incidents
