Notoriously rational ‘I can see Russia from my house’ US politician Sarah Palin is well and truly pissed at both Lena Dunham and the left wing media in general.
She spewed forth a good 500 word rant on her Facebook page, calling Lena Dunham a pedophile, and accusing the ‘left wing media’ of double standards.
Of what, you ask? Oh, nothing, just the totally linked, not at all different stories of Dunham curiously peering inside her sister’s vagina when she was 7, and Josh Duggar sexually abusing five underage girls when he was 14.
“HEY LENA, WHY NOT LAUGH OFF EVERYONE’S SEXUAL “EXPERIMENTS” AS YOU HAUGHTILY ENJOY REWARDS FOR YOUR OWN PERVERSION? YOU PEDOPHILE, YOU” she wrote, because she discovered the caps lock and by golly she’s going to use it.
Dunham recounted the ‘looking inside her sister’s vagina’ story in her autobiography. Some of the more right wing / sensational US press jumped on this particular story like paparazzi to a nip slip, accusing Dunham of sexually abusing her sister. (Read Dunham’s response to that here.)

Palin has clearly been reading her internet sites, because she’s jumping on an unfortunate bandwagon that compares Dunham’s story to Duggar’s, who’s victims include his own sisters.
“I’m not defending the Duggar boy’s obvious wrongdoing over a decade ago. The main victim in any story like this isn’t the perpetrator, it’s the innocent ones so harmfully affected. I’m not an apologist for any sexual predator, but I’m sickened that the media gives their chosen ones a pass for any behaviour as long as they share their leftwing politics. Case in point, they suggest Lena Dunham’s sexual assault on her sibling is cute, and she’s rewarded for it with fame and fortune. Meanwhile, they crucify another, along with an entire family.”
The media has been reporting – and yes, vilifying – Duggar’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle to almost the same degree as Josh.
Like we said, the story is still unfolding, but it’s come to light that they were aware of the incidences, took no measure to remove Josh from living under the same roof as some of his victims, and – as InStyle reported with the help of the Freedom of Information Act – allegedly lied through their teeth when telling media they assisted police with their inquiries.
Look, Palin’s not the first person to make similar accusations about the Dunham vs Duggar stories. But when you’re accusing the media of “such obvious double standards to equally relevant stories”, you need to acknowledge the lack of another one: Dunham was 7, Duggar was 14. One openly discussed the incident with consent from her sister, the other – with the help of his parents – covered it up. There are no double standards. ‘Double standards’ can get fucked.
