The Queensland man who allegedly bashed Kevin Rudd’s godson during an argument about same-sex marriage has been charged with assault.
The 48-year-old has also been hit with public nuisance charges, after Tuesday’s alleged altercation left 19-year-old Sean with a significant gash on his head.

The accused Murrarie man is scheduled to face those charges at Brisbane Magistrate’s Court next month.
In a Facebook post, Bulimba 4 Marriage Equality claims the man’s actions were captured on CCTV.
The alleged incident occurred near at a bus stop, close to a roundabout where Bulimba 4 Marriage Equality’s rainbow flags had been ripped down.
The group claims Sean responded to the man’s homophobic slurs by saying “that’s okay, I don’t like you.” When the man allegedly asked if Sean believed him to be a homophobe, the 19-year-old replied in the affirmative.
That’s when the alleged assault occurred.
Critics of the postal survey on marriage equality have long voiced serious concerns over the likelihood of homophobes feeling emboldened to abuse LGBTIQ Australians. Unfortunately, it seems those fears are already playing out.
