Ruby Rose Pens First Column For news.com.au

Prolific tweeter and reluctant ‘celesbian’ Ruby Rose has parlayed her fame from DJ gigs, modeling, fashion design and winter sports commentary into the written word with her new role as columnist for News.com.au.

And I know what you’re thinking: urgh another “celebrity column” poorly written by some social pages regular, harping on about the slings and arrows of being good looking and rich, but Ruby’s debut blog post is very good.

At first glance her column appears to be another “confession about gossip mags” but the real hook is the issue of marriage equality for gay people in Australia, a point she makes via a beautifully revealing story of how former fiancee Catherine McNeil proposed to her. Her point? Even though her relationships are doled out as sapphic tabloid fodder, high-profile lesbian unions like hers can hopefully alter perceptions of gay marriage in Australia.

An important message delivered with simplicity and grace. Well done, Ruby Rose.
