Ruby Rose Says She’s Sorry For Calling Tony Abbott A “Sexist Bigot”

Last year, in an interview with UK magazine Diva, Ruby Rose laid into Tony Abbott for his stubborn refusal to address the issue of marriage equality in Australia.
“Don’t get me started on gay rights back home!” she said, fuming about the lack of equal-rights for same-sex couples. “Our Prime Minister is a sexist bigot. So equality is going to take some time.”
It wasn’t the first time she’d attacked our fair leader, or the most colourful. A few years ago, she Tweeted to Abbott: “You are like a drunk moron who spills out of a pub and spews on the ground. You are that spew. That spew is you.”
For whatever reason, though, Rose has decided that she no longer feels this way, and in a recent interview, when asked about her biggest gaffe on social media, she said that it was the “sexist bigot” comments.
She said:
“Going head-to-head with the Prime Minister of my country a few years ago. I didn’t mean to do it and I woke up and it was all over the news and it was like a very big deal – it was all over the papers. I’m sorry. It was about gay rights but it didn’t need to get that big.”
It’s not clear whether Rose was apologising to Abbott directly, or just for the furore that she caused, but either way … there that is. Australia, meanwhile, still does not have legalised same-sex marriage.
