Parents Release Video Of Kids’ Fatal Car Crash To Warn Against Speeding

WARNING: This footage isn’t graphic, but it is distressing.

The parents of two young men killed in a fatal crash have released the footage of the moment it happened, in the hope that it will encourage others to drive safely.

Kyle Careford, 20, and Michael Owen, 21, were speeding at up to 145km/hr in Sussex, England when they veered off the road and crashed.

Both men, who had been wearing seat belts, died instantly,” the police report said. “Both [had] taken a cocktail of prescribed and illegal drugs that would have resulted in severe toxicity and had a severely detrimental effect on Kyle’s ability to control the car. This was compounded by his experience – he did not have a license and was uninsured to drive the car, which was owned by Michael.”

Michael filmed the drive on his phone, which was found under a tree at the crash site the following morning. His parents have decided to release the footage as a warning to others.

If all this stops one person from making the same mistake, then some good has come from showing this video,” Michael’s mother Kat said. “I’m hoping it will have an impact on young people and make them see that a bit of fun can have such devastating consequences.

In Australia, there were 1,191 road deaths for the 12 month period ended August 2015 (the most recently released data), up 3.7% from the same period a year earlier.

Stay safe, mates.
