Over 100 People Injured After NYC Subway Train Derails In Brooklyn

A New York City train derailed at a downtown Brooklyn terminal today, injuring more than 100 commuters in what is the city’s second major rail accident since September.

The Long Island Rail Road train went off the tracks near a busy transportation hub around 8:20am local time. The train reportedly crashed after a normal approach to the station, knocking passengers on top of one another and shattering windows.
Video was captured of the aftermath:
None of the injuries are reportedly life-threatening, though at least 11 people were sent to hospital. The worst injury is believed to be a broken leg. “There were people crying,” said one commuter told Reuters. “I saw some bloody faces.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has made infrastructure improvement a central part of his platform, says that this incident was minor in comparison to last September’s incident, in which a New Jersey Transit train slammed into a terminal in Hoboken, New Jersey, killing one and injuring 114.
“There was extensive damage in Hoboken,” Cuomo said. “That train was coming in much faster, did much more damage.”
