NSW Parliament Just Passed A Motion Calling Donald Trump A “Revolting Slug”

Look, real talk for a second here: Politics is an exhausting business at the best of times. Political procedure isn’t exactly that spicy, which is why politicians resort to hyperbole and sloganism when fronting the public in order for the things they need to say to actually land.
But occasionally – just sometimes – ordinary parliament procedure throws up an absolute gem of a something that we can do naught but stand and applaud.
The NSW Legislative Council has had it up to here *motions about neck-ish* with Donald Trump and the finite-but-boundaryless ball of accusations and stories of sexual harassment, misogynistic behaviour, and flat-out groping and assault in some cases. Even the dang video where, when talking about a ten year old girl, stated that he would be “dating her in ten years.”
That guy. That fkn guy. The NSW Legislative Council has had bloody jack of him.
So earlier this morning, Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham tabled a motion that thoroughly and vigorously condemned the current and historic words and actions of Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for President of the United States.
But not only that, it contained a motion of agreement that Trump is, in fact, a “revolting slug.”

The motion, in full, reads as follows:
“This house:

(a) condemns the misogynistic, hateful comments made by the Republican candidate for President
of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump, about women and minorities, including the
remarks revealed over the weekend that clearly describe sexual assault,

(b) reflects on the divisive, destructive impact that hate speech from political candidates and
members of elected office has on our community,

and
(c) agrees with those who have described Mr Trump as ‘a revolting slug’ unfit for public office.”

The best bit? The motion passed. Unopposed. It’s now forever enshrined in Hansard as part of the historic discourse of NSW Parliament.

They even had to pause briefly before passing the bill to check and see if “revolting slug” constituted unparliamentary language.
Turns out it does not.
Buckingham, understandably chuffed after his little riposte to the Donald got through, sang the praises of the motion’s universal political support.

“It is great that all sides of Australian politics, from conservatives to Liberals to Greens, agree that Donald Trump is a revolting slug and completely unfit for public office.”

I tell ya sometimes, only sometimes, politics fucking rules.
