Northern Territory Welcomed Into Fold, To Become Seventh State By 2018

The Northern Territory’s long-time bid to rid itself of the ‘second-class citizen’ stigma that comes with not being a state, by becoming a state, has received unanimous support from PM Tony Abbott and state premiers at the Council of Australian Governments meeting today.
A communique from the leader’s meeting, currently being held in Sydney, stated that everyone in attendance was equally as down with NT Chief Minister Adam Giles‘ suggestion that it officially become Australia’s seventh state capital by July 1, 2018.
Excited NTers were quick to take to Twitter to discuss the possibility of a swanky name change, or a possible update to the Aussie flag, which has six stars to represent the nation’s six flags.
But in true form, Tone was quick to shut that one down, stating:
“I’m not in favour of changing the flag, I’ve got to say, although I have to say that the Commonwealth star was to be a seven-pointer star rather than a six-pointer star, that’s hardly a massive change. I would say that is an evolution rather than a revolution.”

In other words, FUHGEDDABOUTIT.
Giles is expected to report on the progress of the change at the next meeting of COAG, in 2016.
