NBN Announces Plans To Rollout To 1.9 Million New Homes In 19 Months

Tired of so-so internet speeds where you sometimes have to wait an entire hour before a movie, uh… “appears” on your computer? Your long wait for breakneck bandwidth might soon be over.

NBN Co – the parent company that’s overseeing the implementation of the National Broadband Network as those of you with a nose for acronyms might already have figured out – has announced ambitious plans to roll out the network to a whopping 1.9 million new homes by June 2016, or a target of 100,000 new connections per month for the next 19 months.
The plan is the first to include the so-called “flexible” multi-technology approach – the stripped back system mandated shortly after the Abbott Government came into power last year. This includes the Fibre To The Node method which involves utilising existing copper technology to connect multiple homes to a single fibre node, rather than the previous plan which involved a universal Fibre To The Premises system, which would replace the existing, and outdated, technological infrastructure.
The new rollout plan includes a large amount of regional centres, as well as expanding the network’s rollout across major cities, including Aspley, Ipswich and Nudgee in Brisbane, Blacktown, Homebush and Penrith in Sydney, St Marys and Aldinga in Adelaide, South Perth and Victoria Park in Perth, and Footscray, Werribee, and Sunbury in Melbourne.
