Melbs’ Iconic Flinders St Station Is Flashing Its Brand New Paintjob

Glimpses of the exterior to Melbourne’s revamped Flinders Street Station have been revealed, and folks, it’s looking mighty handsome indeed.

A portion of the seemingly omnipresent scaffolding has been removed from the south-facing portion of the city’s emblematic station, showing some of the freshly-painted brickwork.

That deeper maroon colour, and the new lighter-coloured detailing, are a pretty damn big deviation from the faded red and off-yellow the city has become used to.

It’s also not an entirely new development, as the livery actually mimics what the station would have looked like in the very early 1900s.

Since then, the landmark has been painted over five times.
The champs in charge of making sure the station is up to snuff this time around had to strip all of that history from the brick walls, and have invested in over 5,000 litres of specially-formulated paint for its makeover.
Until the $100M redevelopment is fully completed though, expect to see some more of this.
