A St Kilda bookstore will be closing down after some rat bastard filed a complaint and the council deemed it to be in breach of zoning laws.
The owners of the store, Bookhouse, said they also copped an IRL complaint from a resident when they first moved in, which surprised them, due to the area being known for shit more like sex shops:
“We were gobsmacked, as the store is completely inoffensive. We have a lovely display of books in the window and there are no signs or billboards on the street. Little old ladies walk past and pop in just to tell us how much they like the fact that we are here.”
They thought it was over until someone (read: probably the same snitch-ass motherfucker) made an official complaint to the council, who then notified Bookhouse that they were in violation of local zoning laws.
The owners went through the building’s history, proving that it was an exception because it had been operating as a shop continuously for 15 years without a 2 year break – which the council then overturned because its stint as a dressmakers’ was a bit dubious. Christ.
It’s particularly shitty because a) it’s been a shop since the 1920s b) the council already knew about it, on account of they had to approve the illuminated sign they in front of the shop and c) IT’S A FUCKING BOOKSHOP.
Shout out to to the bibliophobic dickhead so bothered by a bookshop they tried to get them shut down. I mean who the fuck complains about a bookstore, seriously?
