More Than 50 Firefighters Tackle Multi-Storey Blaze In Melbourne’s CBD

Firefighters in Melbourne have brought a blaze which engulfed a building in the city’s CBD under control.

Melbourne Fire Brigade said crews were alerted to the blaze on Russell St, near the intersection of Bourke St, at 11:16am.

More than fifteen units were deployed.

Firefighters wearing respirators were required to enter the premises as emergency services evacuated the structure.

No injuries have been reported.

Footage shared on social media shows firefighters showering the building with water as smoke billowed into the sky.

A police cordon has been enforced on Russell St between Bourke St and Lonsdale St.

It is currently unclear what caused the blaze.
