A man has been arrested by detectives from the Homicide Squad following the discovery of a woman’s body in a laneway in Melbourne CBD this morning, according to Victoria Police.
In a statement, Victoria Police said that a 32-year-old Melbourne man was “in custody, assisting detectives with their enquiries“. A post mortem is being conducted on the body, but police say that the death is currently being treated as suspicious.
The body was found by a passerby at the intersection of Little Bourke Street and Celestial Avenue in Chinatown at about 6:30 this morning. According to the ABC, the woman is believed to have been around 33 years old. The ABC is also reporting that detectives have been viewing CCTV footage from the council and local businesses.
