Aussie Travel Bloggers Released From Jail In Iran With All Charges Dropped

Jolie King, Mark Firkin

Perth couple Mark Firkin and Jolie King have been released from prison in Iran and reunited with their families, with the pair said to be in good health.

The two travel bloggers commenced a world trip in 2017, documenting their adventures along the way, but they were detained in Tehran several months ago.

Their followers raised concerns after they were not seen online for several weeks, and it emerged that they had been caught flying a drone without a permit.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne confirmed today via ABC News that the pair are free and in “good health and good spirits.”

In a statement to the media, she said:

“For Jolie and for Mark the ordeal they have been through is now over, they are being reunited with their loved ones, which is a source of great relief and joy to everyone.”

Mark Firkin is a dual British-Australian citizen, and the UK‘s Foreign Office has raised “serious concerns” about the plight of dual citizens imprisoned in Iran.

Shortly after Firkin and King’s story came to light, it was revealed that another dual citizen, Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, had been held in the same prison for more than a year.

Dr Moore-Gilbert lectured in Islamic studies and at the University of Melbourne, and her family are continuing to lobby governments for her release.
