Man Surrenders to Police After Taking Hostages in Paris Post Office

Earlier this evening, a hostage situation developed in Paris, with reports of a gunman holding a number of people at a post office in Colombes, north-west of the city.
Thankfully, the incident has been resolved without casualties – ABC News report that the gunman has surrendered to police, and that the hostages have been freed without injury.
News Limited report that the alarm was raised just after 1pm local time, with 80 officers surrounding the post office. After an hour, however, the man “gave himself up”, with no injury to the hostages.
Police sources have since said that the 31-year-old man is known to law enforcement and has a history of mental illness.
Paris is still on edge following a pair of fatal attacks last week, in which more than a dozen people were killed at a Jewish supermarket and satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
