Man Arrested After Woman’s Body Found At Bestival Music Festival

Bestival has recently grown to become one of the most acclaimed music festivals in the world, after starting in 2004 on the Isle of Wight. It moved this year to a new home in Dorset, and kicked off with headliners the Pet Shop Boys and The XX.

Unfortunately the festival suffered a tragedy this year, after a woman from London attending the festival was reported missing just before 1am on Monday. A spokesperson for Dorset police made the sad announcement that her body was found near the festival site.

Very sadly, following a search of the area the body of the woman was located in a wooded area on the edge of the festival site. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding her death and a cordon is in place on site while forensic examinations are being carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire said that an investigation has subsequently been launched.

Following the discovery of the woman’s body we have now launched an investigation into her death. We have specially trained officers supporting her family at this very difficult time. Inquiries are now under way to establish how she died. A postmortem examination will be carried out in due course and this should give us more of an indication as to the cause of her death.

A 28-year-old man from London has been arrested, and Dorset police state that this is “to enable officers to conduct an interview under caution to help establish the full circumstances.”

We’ll keep you updated.
