Well then. This is certainly a yarn-and-a-half.
Of all the things Donald Trump has done wrong since assuming Presidency (pretty much everything), one of the things he actually managed to do successfully was gleefully emasculate Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull by hanging the fuck up on him during a reportedly terse phone call.
We all had a good laugh, and Malc tried to brush it off as nothing, even though it was clearly killing him on the inside.
Fast forward to last night, and it would seem that Malcolm is laughing at Trump just as much as the rest of us are.
The Parliament Press Gallery held their annual Midwinter Ball last night; a charity event involving journalists, media personalities, and politicians. Mystifyingly, it is a strictly off-the-record event for journos; what goes on at the Midwinter Ball is not reported on, and is not considered a matter for the public record.
Only problem with that is that Laurie Oakes doesn’t believe it should be. Laurie Oakes could not give less of a shit.
The veteran journo got hold of a “leaked” video and audio recording from the event, in which Malcolm Turnbull addressed the crowd and impersonated President Donald Trump.
The footage, posted by 9 News where they have it locked up tighter than the lid on a pickle jar, shows Turnbull imitating Donald’s cadence (he doesn’t even try to do the voice and it’s *shit* TBH) as he talks about polls, and that infamous first public meeting.
“It was beautiful. It was the most beautiful putting-me-at-ease-ever.”“The Donald and I, we are winning, and we are winning in the polls. We are winning so much. We are winning like we have never won before.”“We are winning in the polls. We are! We are. Not the fake polls, not the fake polls. They’re the ones we’re not winning in.”“We’re winning in the real polls. You know, the online polls. They are so easy to win. I know that. Did you know that? I kind of know that. They are so easy to win. I have this Russian guy. Believe me, it’s true. It is true.”

Oakes’ “leak” of the audio has sparked heated debate on Twitter amongst journos arguing whether or not he was right to do it, given that the Ball was an OTR event.
But when the yarn is this good, huge, really terrific, it was clearly gonna come out sooner or later.
Now then. I wonder how Big Donnie will take this…
