If It Isn’t This Koala Invading An SA Family’s Christmas Tree, I Don’t Want To Hear About It

I’ve always had an issue with typical Christmas decor. The whole concept of ‘snow’ always felt incongruous for me, even insulting, as I baked through December in Adelaide. But one SA family recently discovered what 100% authentic Australian decorations could look like, thanks to the young koala which attached itself to their Christmas tree.

The Guardian reports the McCormick family of Coromandel Valley returned home on Wednesday to discover the lil’ marsupial tucked away on their tree.

Taylah McCormick, 16, told the outlet the koala was wrapped up in lights and had strewn baubles all over the floor. The poor little baby even tried nibbling on the plastic greenery, too.

“I saw her munch down on some but she stopped when she realised it was plastic,” the young gun said.

In extremely important news for us, she also had the good sense to capture the discovery on TikTok.

The family called a nearby koala rescue organisation, who were able to relocate the little darling – who McCormick named Daphne – to a more suitable tree.

The prevailing hypothesis for the koala’s arrival is that it simply crawled in while a door was open and camped out in the tree for a few hours.

And now we get to enjoy the footage, and the knowledge our lil’ mate also returned home. Better than fake snow all over the place, TBH.
