Karl Grandin – way beyond Cheap Monday

Print of the “Animal Sweater”

Cheap Monday creative director is Swedish graphic designer, Karl Grandin. He is responsible for the famous CM skull and the prints for the Cheap Monday Wknd collections. That is only the tip of the iceberg though. From textile design, to bathroom graffiti, to short-stop animation. Here is some of his other amazing work.

This is the “Animal Sweater”, a piece about how nature has lost it’s wilderness. “There is nothing that has not yet been altered by human intervention. Man has conquered nature and is repackaging in neatly into zoos, parks, artificial beaches and genetic engineering… As we are surrounded by logos, we are systematically invited, encouraged and directed in what we do. Brands want to be personal and engage in a relationship with you… In the Animal Sweater pattern, 180 animal shaped logos are set free.”

These three are photos of the permanent graffiti on the bathroom walls of resteraunt Riche in Stockholm. The piece is titled “The Garden of Earthly Delights” which is an interpretation of an altarpiece triptych created by Hieronymus Bosch in the early sixteenth century.
