IT’S BAAAAAACK.
After what will go down as one of the most high-profile tech fuck-ups in Australian history, the Census is now back up and ready for your personal details.
The Australian Information Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim gave it the all-clear earlier today, after concluding that none of your personal information was accessed after…
The servers overloaded.Chinese hackers pissed off at Mack Horton attacked it.Aussies protesting the very idea of the Census hacked it.
Pilgrim said in the statement that the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), the country’s leading cyber-security analysts, advised him that it was indeed a denial of service (DoS) attack.
“The ABS’s decision to shut down the website — to avoid any prospect that the DoS attack could include or otherwise facilitate a data breach — was, in the circumstances, a pro-privacy precaution,” he said.
The whole kerfuffle is now going to subject to both a broader review led by the PM’s Cyber-Security Advisor Alastair MacGibbon, and pisstakes for the rest of the year.
The whole thing’s now back up and running, if you want to go for Round 2.
