Julian Assange has long championed Wikileaks’ ability to affect change by publishing sensitive information online and shaming governments in a public forum. The same could be said of people and of Assange himself of course, particularly after users of content aggregation site Reddit chanced upon what is allegedly Assange’s profile on dating website OKcupid. Oh the irony. Currently battling multiple sex charges filed by two women in Sweden, Assange’s alleged dating profile offers a curious snapshot of his sexuality circa ’06.
The first thing people notice about him? Height. Nordic appearance. Unusual presense (sic). The most private thing he is willing to admit? I have asian teengirl (sic) stalkers. Who should write to him? Do not write to me if you are timid. I am too busy. Write to me if you are brave. What is he looking for? Passionate, and often pig headed activist intellectual seeks siren for love affair, children and occasional criminal conspiracy.
The question then is one of legitimacy. Is this actually Assange’s forgotten dating profile or some elaborate hacker prank? I don’t really know but since the profile was last accessed almost fours ago, it would seem unlikely to be fake. I mean, his interests include “white collar crime and the internet“. His stated age is 36 (his real age is 39) which seems about right allowing for the obligatory online dating age shave. He is straight, from Melbourne and directs a “consuming, dangerous human rights project which is, as you might expect, male dominated.” The profile also hints at the misogyny (Western culture seems to forge women that are valueless and inane), egotism (Want a regular, down to earth guy? Keep moving. I am not the droid you’re looking for) and aggression (Although I am pretty intellectually and physically pugnacious…) that supposedly make up his psychological profile. Also, ASIAN TEENGIRL STALKERS?
