Inside The Design House That Dare Jennings Built


Dare Jennings is a true Renaissance Man. The artist, surf icon and bespoke motorcyle enthusiast who co-founded and later on-sold Mambo, reinvented himself as an entrepreneur after starting Deus ex Machina in his Fifties. Deus combines Dare’s experience in art- and design-driven streetwear and surf gear, and his love of custom bikes into one profitable package. Orlando Bloom is among the bike fans who prefer the super elegant, classic style of Deus ex Machina motorcycles, and every other dude on the street wears the trucker caps and t-shirts. The creative centre for the organisation is called the House of Simple Pleasures, a renovated factory space in Sydney suburb Camperdown where the showroom, workshop and design studio are housed. The Deus team grabbed a Sony NEX 5-R camera to take us on a visual tour of the space…
