Incredible Photos From The SOS BLAK AUSTRALIA Marches in Sydney & Melbourne Tonight

“Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain and strengthen their distinctive spiritual relationship with their traditionally owned or otherwise occupied and used lands, territories, waters and coastal seas and other resources and to uphold their responsibilities to future generations in this regard.” – Article 25, UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

So everyone remembers when Tony Abbott said that indigenous communities living on their land and preserving thousands of years of culture and history, was a lifestyle choice? Because the Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett decided to close nearly half of WA’s 274 remote Indigenous communities?

How could we ever forget.

Sydney and Melbourne have come together to say a very loud ‘NO’ to the WA Premier and the Prime Minister, and march in solidarity with the members of the indigenous communities affected.
Some incredible images have surfaced on social media.

Thousands gathered at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne from 4pm:

And in Belmore Park in Sydney, marching to the The Block in Redfern:

There will be another, nationally organised march in cities and towns all over Australia on May 1st.

#sosblakaustralia is the hashtag to keep your eye on in the meantime, and you can follow SOS BLAK AUSTRALIA on Facebook for more information on the march in May.
