As the global outcry continues following the tragedy surrounding a prank call placed to Kate Middleton’s private nurse at The King Edward VII Hospital in London last week, an Australian hacktivist group operating under the Anonymous banner (yet completely unaware of how to spell the word ‘anonymous’?) have issued this unnerving ultimatum to embattled Sydney radio station 2DayFM and its parent company Southern Cross Austereo.
Jacintha Saldanha, the 46 year old mother of two who fielded the prank, was found dead after allegedly committing suicide in London on Friday, just days after she was duped by 2DayFM broadcasters Michael Christian and Mel Greig.
In response, a spokesperson for the organisation, obscured by a Guy Fawkes style face mask and digitally altered voice, accused the pair of murder and demanded their firing, issuing the following ultimatum which threatened digital retaliation against not only the radio station and its parent company, but its advertisers.
“We have studied the facts and found you guilty of murder.” the figure says. “You have
placed yourself in an untenable position. You have placed your
advertisers at risk. Their databases, their websites, their online
advertising.”
“We are Anonymous and hereby demand you terminate the
contracts of Mel Greig and Michael Christian. We will not listen to any
more excuses. We will not let you escape your responsibility. You have a
funeral to pay for. We are Anonymous. We are legion. We are amongst
you. Expect us. This is not a prank call; this is no laughing matter.
This is your one and only chance to make amends. You have one week to do
so.”

As a preemptive strike, Southern Cross Austero has suspended all advertising on 2DayFM until at least Monday.
