Graphic Video Of Police Fatally Shooting Unarmed Man Attracts Protests In New Jersey

2014 saw two particularly high profile cases of unarmed black men being fatally wounded by police in the United States – the lack of indictment for the Eric Garner and Mike Brown cases truly rocked the US, sparking dramatic and widespread protests around the country.

Today, the US is sadly there again, as a graphic dashcam video has emerged from Bridgeton, New Jersey, showing what appears to be the fatal shooting of the unarmed Jerame Reid by police at a routine traffic stop.

According to the Guardian, New Jersey police officers on December 30, 2014, shot Jerame Reid multiple times after his failure to follow police orders. The video appears to show that police believed a firearm was concealed in the car’s glovebox.

Reid’s car was allegedly stopped after running a stop sign.

“I’m getting out and getting on the ground,” the Guardian reports Reid as saying, before officers fire a reported seven shots.

Protesters of the shooting are pushing for the case to be taken on by the state Attorney General’s Office. The investigation will reportedly be handled by a Grand Jury, unless “undisputed facts indicate that the use of force was justifiable under the law,” according to a statement. But we know that even a Grand Jury doesn’t always work out.

Same story, different victim.

The five-minute long, graphic video can be seen below. Warning of disturbing content.
