Looks Like George Brandis Is Leaving Parliament For A Cushy New Gig

Looks like Attorney-General George Brandis will be officially gawnnn in Malcolm Turnbull‘s expected cabinet reshuffle leading into 2018. According to the ABC, Brandis will be sailing into the cushy role of Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, replacing Alexander Downer.

The two most likely contenders to replace him are Social Services Minister Christian Porter and Employment Minister Michaelia Cash. Porter’s apparently the frontrunner – potentially concerning considering his primary role in the massive Centrelink debt fuckup this year. It’ll all be announced tomorrow, along with Turnbull’s other cabinet reshuffles.

It’s long been speculated that Brandis would be the one to take the role of High Commissioner. It kind of makes sense that he was on his last legs in Parliament, considering he has ditched his more reserved demeanour of late to condemn Pauline Hanson and more openly call for marriage equality.

All well and good. Though he has done a substantial number of shitty things too – like infamously defending the “right to be a bigot” during the debate on the Racial Discrimination Act and also invoicing taxpayers $15,000 for a bookshelf for some reason. And who could forget his inability to define ‘metadata’ while pushing for sweeping laws for cops to be able to access said metadata. Lovely!

Either way, we’ll find out tomorrow whether Georgie is really gone.
