George Brandis Spends Over $1000 Of Taxpayer Money On Single Dinner

Attorney-General George Brandis may not have a firm grasp on how the Internet works, but he seems to be pretty good at working a wine list.

Today it has been revealed that Brandis recently spent $1100 of taxpayer money on a single dinner while visiting London earlier this year. His office has said this is ‘standard practice’ as Brandis was meeting ‘important stakeholders’ from the arts in Britain. They also won’t reveal how many were at the table. This comes very soon after Treasurer Joe Hockey released the revised budget, which screws pretty much everyone who has a pulse and a bank account.
We’ll let you decide on the merits of this statement, but to whet your appetite, here’s what El Brando selected from the beverage cart, via SMH

The group ordered three bottles of 2010 vintage Tyrrell’s Semillon-Sauvignon and supped on a bottle of upmarket Italian Vin Santo del Chianti Bonacchi dessert wine, as well as glasses of Laurent-Perrier Champagne.

When he’s not making meta-rules about meta-data, Brandis is particularly fond of using your dollars to supplement his personal lifestyle. Earlier this year he built a custom bookshelf for his personal library, which came to a cool $15,000. So really, this is pocket change.
Waiter? Another round, please.
