Memorial Site For Eurydice Dixon Graffitied Hours Before Princes Park Vigil

A makeshift memorial site for Melbourne woman Eurydice Dixon was vandalised this morning, requiring authorities to remove a lewd symbol graffitied on the ground.

22-year-old Dixon’s body was discovered in Princes Park last week after she was raped and murdered while walking home.

A floral tribute was formed near the site where her body was found.

ABC reports the vandalism was spotted during a patrol of the park around 4am. Firefighters were notified and the offensive spray-painted imagery was washed away.

A Victorian Police spokesperson confirmed to The Australian that an investigation into the graffiti is ongoing.

The floral tribute itself was not disturbed.

The incident comes just hours before a planned vigil for Dixon in Princes Park. Over ten thousand people have indicated they’ll be present for the Reclaim Princes Park event this evening, and other similar meetings have been planned nationwide.

19-year-old Broadmeadows man Jaymes Todd has been charged with one count of murder and one count of rape in relation to Dixon’s death. He has been remanded in custody and is slated to face court on October 3.
