Eight Killed In Munich Shopping Centre Shooting, State Of Emergency Declared

At least eight people have been killed in a shooting massacre in a shopping centre in the German city of Munich, in what local police are saying “looks like a terrorist attack.”
The incident occurred on Friday, local time, with up to three shooters opening fire on shoppers who were at a McDonald’s near the Olympia shopping centre. A state of emergency has been declared in the city.
Munich newspaper TZ are reporting on the discovery of a ninth body in a carpark, and say there are indications it may be one of the suspects. Two or possibly three others remain at large, with a manhunt underway through the city.
Restaurants and other businesses around Munich have been urged to close, with public transit including bus lines and subways shutting down, and residents told to stay at home.
Eyewitness Thamina Stoll, whose grandmother lives a short distance from the popular shopping centre, told CNN:
“There were like 50 people running towards our house to seek shelter, and there was a helicopter circling above us for about 20 minutes and sirens. And there’s still people walking on the streets, they’re confused, and nobody knows what’s really going on.”
Europe has been on high alert this week, after Tunisian man Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel killed 84 during Bastille Day celebrations in France, and an incident in Bavaria, in which a teenager attacked train passengers with an axe.
