8 Hikers Disappear From Russia’s Dyatlov Pass Almost 62 Years To The Day Since Original Tragedy

Almost 62 years to the date of the infamous Dyatlov Pass incident, a group of tourists have gone missing in the area.

Nine tourists perished under strange circumstances in early February 1959, with theories around the exact cause of death still circulating to this day.

More than 60 years later, eight tourists from Moscow have vanished in the area, according to E1.RU.

A local resident claims that the group had not returned by Wednesday, as expected, thus prompting them to raise the alarm.

“They were supposed to leave at eight o’clock this morning. But they have not returned yet and there is no contact with them,” the local resident told E1.RU.

The group reportedly planned the trip to pay tribute to the nine mountaineers who perished 62 years ago.

February 1 marked the anniversary of the deaths of nine hikers who perished at Dyatlov Pass, being found days later with extreme physical injuries including missing eyes and tongues, among other things.

Just last month, researchers in Switzerland presented a theory – using the help of Disney animation technology – that a small, yet powerful avalanche could be the reason for their deaths.

Johan Gaume and Alexander Puzrin published an article in the Communications Earth and Environment journal, in which they theorised that the deaths were caused by “a slab avalanche caused by progressive wind-blown snow accumulation on the slope above the hikers’ tent.”

Despite some solid evidence to support the theory, the case remains unsolved to this day.
