An 83-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a motorcycle from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s motorcade.

According to the BBC, the motorcade was travelling from London to Windsor when the woman was reportedly knocked to the ground in a collision with a police motorcycle. The Telegraph is reporting that the accident occurred just after midday on Monday in the southwest of London. Local media has identified the woman as Irene Mayor.

Kensington Palace released a statement pledging to keep in touch with Irene, who is reportedly seriously injured but now in a stable condition in a London hospital:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon.

Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery.

The collision is being investigated by police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct after it was referred to them by the Metropolitan Police:

Our staff attended the scene of the incident and after careful consideration, we have launched an independent investigation.

The investigation is in its very early stages and the officer involved is assisting our enquiries as a witness.

Our immediate thoughts are with the injured woman and her family and those affected by the incident.

The motorcade was on its way to Windsor for a service at St George’s Chapel at which William and Kate would be commemorating Garter Day, which is some extremely British shit that I will not be looking into.
