Drug Lord El Chapo Was Caught While Trying To Make A Movie About Himself

Since his capture yesterday by Mexican marines, new details have emerged about the life that notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been living on the run, and the reason authorities were able to track him down.
Per reports in CNN, Mexican police and military say that they were able to find Guzman’s hiding spot because he or someone close to him had been contacting filmmakers to make a movie about his life.
Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez told media:

“Another important aspect that allowed us to pinpoint his location was having discovered Guzman Loera’s intention to film a biographical movie through establishing communication with actors and producers, which formed a new line of investigation.”
Guzman was captured at a home in the coastal city of Los Mochis, which had been under surveillance for a month, with authorities also monitoring cell phones and various electronic exchanges.
Marines raided the house on Friday, local time – five of the drug lord’s henchmen were killed in the subsequent shoot-out, and six more were arrested, with Guzman apparently escaping through a manhole into the city’s sewers.
He made it through the tunnels and stole a car, but was later apprehended on a highway outside the city.
In a statement, Attorney General Gomez confirmed that Mexico will soon begin extradition proceedings, and send Guzman to the United States to face drug trafficking charges there.
For now, Guzman is being held in the same maximum security prison from which he escaped last year. Hopefully they’re keeping a bit more of an eye on him this time.
