Somehow, Trump Failed To Convince That Little Kid Santa Claus Doesn’t Exist

The seven-year-old girl who made international headlines after asking US President Donald Trump about the whereabouts of Santa Claus has revealed she still believes in the big red fella, despite Trump’s insinuation she’s a little too old to have faith in Saint Nick.

In case you missed it, South Carolina girl Collman Lloyd called a long-running US government hotline dedicated to informing kids about Santa’s whereabouts on Christmas Eve. Luckily (or unluckily) for her, a North American Aerospace Defense Command scientist patched her through to the White House to ask Trump himself.

What happened next was a moment of unintentional and callous hilarity from Trump: the President of the United States told Lloyd it was “marginal” for a seven-year-old to still believe in Santa Claus.

Charleston paper The Post and Courier spoke to Lloyd after the call, and reports she wasn’t quite sure what Trump meant by that. She added that she wasn’t nervous, but felt put on the spot to “think of what the truth was.”

And, speaking to BuzzFeed News, she said “He used it with ‘Santa,’ so maybe it has something to do with Christmas?”

A video obtained by The Post and Courier shows the other side of the phone call, including Lloyd’s responses to Trump’s very strange and demeaning comment.

In some ways, a young girl clinging to a comfortable falsehood despite the planet’s most notable liar attempting to tell the truth is a fitting way to send off the hell year that was 2018. Go well, Collman. And if you somehow read this article, please forget every word, and don’t look up “marginal.”
