Donald John Trump, 73, took to Twitter this afternoon to comment on footage of Thunberg addressing today’s United Nations Climate Action Summit.
The 16-year-old Swede had lambasted world leaders for their inaction on curbing carbon emissions, echoing innumerable warnings from the scientific community about the risks of climate change.
“She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,” Trump wrote.
“So nice to see!”

The tweet has already gone viral, with more than 7,000 people sharing Trump’s comments on their own Twitter pages.
Touchingly, Trump’s latest statement marks a turnaround in his perception of the issue.
In 2014, he used his account to label climate change “bullshit”, and once criticised President Barack Obama for saying it was the most pressing issue of our times.
Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air – not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense.

President Obama was terrible on @60Minutes tonight. He said CLIMATE CHANGE is the most important thing, not all of the current disasters!

It is likely his statement comes after reflection on his own family. Trump has several children and grandchildren, and has spoken of his great affection towards some of them, suggesting he cares about the wellbeing future generations.
It is yet to be seen if New York City local Trump will meet with the visiting Thunberg to discuss their shared vision for a cleaner, greener planet.
