Marilyn Manson‘s ex-wife, burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, has spoken for the first time since Evan Rachel Wood and a group of other women came forward with allegations of abuse against the musician.

In her statement to Instagram, she said that she had not experienced the kinds of emotional, physical and sexual abuse the other women described. She did not question their reliability, but clarified that she left Manson because of his infidelity and drug abuse.

“Please know that the details made public do not match my personal experience during our 7 years together as a couple,” she wrote. “Had they, I would not have married him in December 2005. I left 12 months later due to infidelity and drug abuse.”

Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson started dating in 2001, before getting married in late 2005 and splitting up at the end of 2006.

“Abuse of any kind has no place in any relationship,” Von Teese added.

“I urge those of you who have incurred abuse to take steps to heal and the strength to fully realise yourself.”

She also said that she appreciated the kindness of people who had reached out to her in the wake of the accusations.

Dita Von Teese is currently in a relationship with graphic designer Adam Rajcevich, while Marilyn Manson is married to photographer Lindsay Usich.

Earlier this week, another of Marilyn Manson’s exes, Rose McGowan, came out in support of Wood and the other women.

“I stand with Evan Rachel Wood and other brave women who have come forward. It takes years to recover from abuse and I send them strength on their journey to recovery. Let the truth be revealed. Let the healing begin,” she wrote on Twitter.

McGowan and Manson were engaged from 1999 to 2001.

Evan Rachel Wood wrote on Instagram on Monday that Manson had started to groom her when she was a teenager.

“I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission,” she wrote.

“I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives.”

She concluded: “I stand why the many victims who will no longer be silent.”

A group of other women have since shared their own horrific stories of abuse by Manson, including his former personal assistant, Ashley Walters, models Sarah McNeilly and Ashley Lindsay Morgan, and an artist named Gabriella, known on Instagram as sourgirrl.

Manson has denied the allegations against him, calling them “horrible distortions of reality.”

“My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
