Danny Clayton Caught Up In 8-Hr Stand-Off Between Cops & Man In Newtown

A 38-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences after an eight-hour stand-off with police in Newtown yesterday.

He allegedly scaled a house on Church Street and stared throwing tiles at police, pedestrians and cars, according to NSW Police.

“A significant number of police resources were called to the location including general duties, criminal investigation, proactive crime team, rescue unit, dog unit and negotiators,” police said.

One of the unlucky sods who had their car damaged by flying tiles was TV presenter Danny Clayton, who recorded the whole thing on his Instagram stories.

“It appears that something is standing on the roof up there, and my car is parked down there, so we’re not allowed to go down and get it,” he said, pointing his phone at the street.

He also reported via Instagram stories that police used shields to evacuate the nearby residents while the stand-off was ongoing.

Police eventually convinced the man on the room to come down, and he was arrested. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for assessment, before being taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with six counts of destroy or damage property, enter inclosed lands, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear before Newtown Local Court today. Police will be alleging that several buildings and vehicles were damaged when the roof tiles were thrown.

It ah…. doesn’t look great for Danny’s car though.

“It appears that the police who have been hiding behind my car have successfully been avoided being hit by tiles but my windscreen has been smashed,” he said. “This gigantic rock just hit my car, then these cops over here [points to closer cops] start laughing at me because I’m swearing so loud, there’s a huge dent in the side.”

Unlucky, mate.
