Katter’s Australia Party leader and namesake Bob Katter has defended his decrepit underling Fraser Anning, telling reporters in Cairns that he “1000 per cent” defends Anning’s viewpoint that Australia should return to the White Australia policy, and should ban the migration of Muslims.

In a rambling, bizarre, and somewhat numbing press conference, Katter repeatedly defended Anning, less than 24 hours after the senator advocated for a “final solution” to Australia’s immigration policies in his maiden speech to the upper house.
“It was a magnificent speech. It was solid gold,” Katter said.
The Queensland senator said the vast majority of Australia supported views similar to Anning’s, and asked why there shouldn’t be a national vote on Australia’s immigration policy.
Katter also used his ill-gotten spotlight to reframe his party as the even more extreme alternative to One Nation, which is an extreme feat in and of itself.
“Where do we stand on the issue of migration from the Middle East and North Africa? Well, it’s very clear where we stand and we are differentiated from every other party now, including One Nation,” Katter said.
When pressed on whether that stance makes him an out-and-out racist, Katter dodged the question.
“Are we racist? We’re Australians. I don’t know if that’s racist or not. I’m not apologising to anyone for it.”
(Hint: he’s making a really good case for being labelled a racist, and that’s probably a calculated decision.)
Katter’s statement comes after Anning was roundly criticised by members of every major Australian party, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, and Greens leader Richard Di Natale.
