In case you haven’t found it yet, 19 Karen is a contemporary art space on the Gold Coast committed to showcasing the new generation of emerging Australian and International artists, and they’ve got a fantastic show opening this weekend.
LIGHTMARES is an initiative launching this Saturday, 22 May, as a response towards the lack of studio and exhibition resource on the Gold Coast. Featuring an eight-week program from 22 May-19 June 2010, the program showcases a solo collection of works by iconic Berlin artist MYMO – who has been announced as the final speaker at the Brisbane leg of Semi-Permanent – and an exhibition of emerging Australian artists including:
SUSAN SIMONINI
VITOR DOS SANTOS
GEORG WHELAN
HANNAH SMITH
WILL DUNCAN
ABIGAEL WHITTAKER
MICHAEL CANDY
FIONA KENNEDY ALTOFT
JESSE DOLMAN
As part of the program Mymo will be joined on Sat May 29 by New York-based Brisbane artist Anthony Lister and Brisbane curator Randal Breen to discuss issues surrounding street art as a recognised and respected arts practice.
It won’t just be a great show (which it will), it will also be an opportunity to support the budding Gold Coast art scene.
