Multiple casualties have been confirmed by police after a man opened fire inside a Baptist church in Texas.
Police responded to the incident at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, some 65 kilometres south-east of San Antonio, shortly after 11:30 AM local time.
Speaking to Fox News, Constable Thomas Silvas described the incident was a “mass shooting.”
Authorities state the suspected gunman is dead, and that officers are working to remove bodies from the scene. It is currently unclear how many people were killed in the shooting.
A reporter on the scene said multiple medevac helicopters were called in, along with a specialty ambulance for transporting multiple victims.

A spokesperson for nearby Connally Memorial Medical Center said the facility had received patients from the scene, but did not say how many.
