Today the nominees for Britain’s answer to the Oscar’s, the BAFTA Awards, were announced including a nod for anonymous street artist Banksy in the category of Outstanding Debut By A British Writer, Director or Producer for his debut feature film “guerrilla documentary” Exit Through The Gift Shop.
This means that, hypothetically, if Banksy wins, there is a chance that his highly guarded true identity could be revealed. But why rely on chance? For as little as $22.50 you could uncover the “actual identity” of the artist on eBay.
The identity was initially for sale on eBay via user jaybuysthings who claimed “If you win this auction I will mail you a piece of paper revealing the true identity of ‘Banksy’” with bidding reaching $US999,999 however the seller’s listing has inexplicably been removed. Perhaps the money/paper have already exchanged hands? Curious buyers should not dismay because five new listings promising the artist’s true identity have since popped up, including one for $0.99 that reads:
