Aziz Ansari Will Make His Long-Overdue ‘SNL’ Hosting Debut Later This Month

The ‘Saturday Night Live‘ juggernaut continues to rumble along in its mind-boggling 42nd season, with hosting the show now sorta being more like the Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt of entertainment gigs; it’s cool and all, but part of you only really wants it just to prove that you were there.

Regardless, with the show’s Christmas hiatus now at an end, word is slowly emerging on the fresh crop of hosts the show has reeled in for 2017. And among them is one of comedy’s hottest properties; one that, almost miraculously, hasn’t appeared on the series before.
Aziz Ansari is set to take the reins of the show on its January 21st episode, marking the first time Ansari would have ever appeared on the stage of Studio 8H.
While Ansari’s been knuckled down as of late working on season two of his critically acclaimed and hugely beloved Netflix series ‘Master of None,’ a side-trip to SNL casually marks Ansari’s first serious dalliance with sketch comedy in nearly a decade.
Save for a one-time appearance on ‘Kroll Show‘ in 2015, the last time Ansari sought sketchual healing was on his breakthrough MTV series ‘Human Giant,’ which ran for two seasons from 2007 through 2008.
Ansari’s musical guest for the SNL episode is scheduled to be rapper Big Sean, also making his debut appearance on the show.
Now if only we can get Nasim Pedrad back on a one-time deal so we can get duelling Aziz’s, we’ll really be in business.

Aziz Ansari’s episode of ‘Saturday Night Live‘ is scheduled to air on January 21st. Season 2 of ‘Master Of None‘ is set to hit Netflix at some point this year.
