Aussie Bloke Locked Up In US For Staying 90 Mins Too Long Lands Court Date

In news sure to make even the most law-abiding holidayers shrivel up inside, the Canberra man locked up in an American detention facility for overstaying his visa by 90 minutes has been granted his first court date.

Family and friends of 26-year-old Baxter Reid believed he could be behind bars for up to six months before the details of his case were heard in court, but the bloke’s bond hearing has been set for the not-too-distant date of May 10.

Granted, that’s still a long-arse time to spend in Buffalo Federal Detention Centre for the alleged offense. For context, the running time of Paul Blart: Mall Cop is 91 minutes. If he’d hiked towards the Canadian border the equivalent of one Kevin James film earlier, he likely wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Reid’s American girlfriend Heather Kansco has said he’s “actually very happy today” about the news of his court date.
We’ll keep you posted on how this one turns out.
