Arnold Schwarzenegger Compares Capitol Riot To 1938 Nazi Germany Violence In Viral Video

Former California Governor and perhaps one of the most noteworthy celebs-turned-politicians (before Trump) Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken to Twitter to compare last week’s attack on the US Capitol to Nazi Germany.

Schwarzenegger took to Twitter on Sunday night to share the now-viral video, which drew terrifying comparisons between last week’s storm on the Capitol and the 1938 Kristallnacht rampage that destroyed Jewish homes, businesses and places of worship in Germany.

“Being from Europe, I’ve seen firsthand how things can spin out of control,” he said.

“I do believe that we must be aware of the dire consequences of selfishness and cynicism.”

“Wednesday was the Day of Broken Glass right here in the United States. The broken glass was in the windows of the United States Capitol,” he said, referencing Kristallnacht – or the Night of Broken Glass.

“But the mob did not just shatter the windows of the Capitol. They shattered the ideas we took for granted.”

Within hours of being shared, the video has already amassed nearly 20 million views.

Throughout the seven-and-a-half minute video, Schwarzenegger shared stories from his youth in Austria, pointing out the guilt and anger his father and neighbours felt for their participation in the Nazi regime – noting that they were misled with lies and manipulation.

“My father and our neighbours were misled also with lies,” he said. “And I know where such lies lead.”

Interestingly, he also described those who carried out the Kristallnacht attacks as “the Nazi-equivalent of the Proud Boys,” which is a terrifying thought to say the least.

Schwarzenegger, who is a lifelong Republican but also has a long history of criticising Trump’s leadership, described the President as a “failed leader” and the “worst president ever”, which honestly sounds like its putting it lightly at this point.

Despite his Republican ties, the former California Governor urged all Americans to come together – regardless of their political affiliation – to support Joe Biden, stating that if Biden succeeds, America as a whole will succeed.
