Ararat Reopens Its Outdoor Pool After 4 Long Years, Just In Time For Winter

Spare a thought for the fine people of Ararat today, who have at long last won a 4-year battle against the oppressive summer heat.

Around 4 years or so ago, the small Victorian town of around 7.000 had the gates to their much beloved outdoor public swimming pool closed and locked.
Today, thanks to a boost in funding from the Andrews Labor Government, the gates were flung open once again, and new life was finally breathed in to the hot weather favourite.
Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the move, a core election promise for the regional town, which will benefit from a $350,000 investment from this year’s Victorian State Budget.

“We promised to reopen Ararat’s Olympic Swimming Pool and we’re keeping our word.”

“The community has worked hard to save this pool. We’re giving families of Ararat a facility they can be proud of.”

The pool’s reopening will come with a refurbished change room, kiosk, showers, toilets, and is expected to provide a serious boost in community engagement and vital life skills.

ALL THAT WOULD BE WELL AND GOOD EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT’S APRIL AND IT’S FUCKING COLD IN ARARAT TODAY.
Even the godforsaken photos that have been coming out of the relaunch today look chilly and grey and grim as shit.

And today’s weather is not an anomaly, either. The last hot day for the season in Victoria was literally yesterday.

But, hey. The good people of Ararat should indeed be stoked. It’s a wonderful win for their fine town.
It’s just that re-opening a pool on the cusp of winter’s a little bit like being given a different bike part every week; weird, cruel, and we probably could’ve just waited a few extra months instead.
That said the Ararat Polar Bear Club is gonna be LIT this season, you guys.
