Eating disorders are a very real struggle for a lot of people, but apparently – at least, to Amazon-stocked company ArturoBurch, they’re a source of super offensive humour, too.
The company – and Amazon – are coming under fire for this particularly fucked up hoodie, which jokes that anorexia is like “bulimia, except with self control”. Ugh.
People are, obviously, blowing up about it.
.@amazon Please remove this #anorexia ‘hoody’ item from sale. #eatingdisorders kill. It is not a joking matter https://t.co/Cf0ZNMqT8G pic.twitter.com/CKQdDE8shg

Look, we could forgive Amazon for letting some unsuspecting products accidentally get through on occasion. It is a massive, massive site and people make mistakes in the approvals process for this stuff sometimes. Hell, practically every huge global fashion brand has had a brush with the old “offensive tee slogan” scandal.
But the real issue people are having with Amazon is that calls for the item to be removed have been going since late 2015, via the reviews section on their site. And nothing has been done about it. Even now that the hoodie has gone viral, Amazon has (so far) remained silent and the hoodie is still up for sale.
It’s all supremely shit. Here’s hoping Amazon listens to people this time around and pulls it asap.
