A Melbourne Uni To Host Anti-Same-Sex Marriage Event ‘The Cost Of Equality’

Please allow us to beg your indulgence for one moment, to deploy a classic high school essay filler and begin smugly, with a definition:

A current student at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), who wishes to remain anonymous because they would presumably like to receive a degree from said learning institution, was blowing up our Facebook DMs to let us know about an event being held tonight at their Melbourne campus – ‘The Cost of Equality‘.

(The cost of ‘The Cost of Equality’ is $15.00).

The night will feature speaker/’Traditional Marriage Champion’ Dr. Ryan Anderson PhD, who “will share underexplored insights and facts about the future of marriage and religious freedom – and how the reality of our current trajectory could represent the greatest cost to our quality of life” and is presented by:

According to our mole on the inside – cheers, ________! – every student got an email inviting them to the event and there has since been “a very significant reaction from the student body.”

“In every class I have had since the email, at some point there has been a discussion between the students about how disgusting it is that the university promotes this, and calling them hypocrites since we are all made to do a subject based on understanding equality and respect for human dignity [Understanding Self and Society: Contemporary Perspectives].

I have seen many Facebook posts by fellow students wanting to tell the public about the shame they feel for the university, even from high-up members of student committees and at least one tutor/lecturer.”

As for Ryan Anderson, to give you an idea of his ~vibe~, the interview included in the event description features this choice quote:

“This is not about gay marriage, it’s about marriage.

And it’s only after 40 years of the sexual revolution, in which heterosexuals bought into a bad liberal ideology, that Anthony Kennedy [Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court] could then legally redefine marriage.
It’s only after no-fault divorce, premarital sex, nonmarital childbearing and all of the other problems that heterosexuals did to marriage, that Anthony Kennedy could then say ‘oh, the male/female thing, it doesn’t matter either.

So, it’s both a cause and an effect of the degradation of marriage.”

When asked about “the traditional argument” that loving same-sex couples would provide a stable home:

“Right now we know that 40% of all children are born to single mothers, it’s 50% of hispanic, 70% of african american kids born to single mothers.

Gays and lesbians didn’t cause this problem.

But redefining marriage makes it harder to solve the problem, because how do we say fathers are essential when the law’s redefining marriage to make fathers optional.”

When asked about the marriage equality campaign “showing the human face” of same-sex couples, he said:

“They were very good at showing who’s the victim here and they were very good at intimidating people into silence.”

Of the “real victims” he said:

“What happens to the bakers?”

We reached out this morning to the Australian Catholic University to ask about the event. They were unable to provide a statement at that time but are getting back to us soon.
