60 Mins Crew Still Locked Up, Facing Another Night In The Slammer In Beirut

The ’60 Minutes’ nightmare over the investigation in Beirut isn’t seeing any resolution this morning. The crew are facing another night behind bars in Beirut on suspicion of kidnapping, after allegations surfaced that they paid a controversial child recovery agency $120K to assist in the recovery of two children taken from Australia to Lebanon by their father.

The Australian confirmed early this morning that the Australian embassy had made contact with the team, and Julie Bishop continues to maintain that proper consular assistance has been offered.
Video emerged last night of the operation, where the two children were snatched in a street from two women identified as the their paternal grandmother and nanny. Child Abduction Recovery International are reportedly the agency involved – and agents have been prosecuted for operations before.
Fellow reporter Michael Usher says they are concerned they have not spoken to their colleagues, but are glad that Australian authorities are involved in conversation.
