Despite the fact he has over the course of the past year gone completely renegade, Barnaby Joyce will continue to be a thorn in the side of the Coalition from the backbench, with the ABC predicting he is going to very solidly retain his seat of New England.

With just over ten percent of the vote counted, Barnaby is ahead with 67.5 percent of the vote, meaning that his electorate has very much not been swayed by the drama.
To be fair, there was never a real sense his seat was under threat or that his electorate was going to turn against him for being Australia’s most famous root rat. But nonetheless, that’s where the numbers are lying, and it looks like Mr Joyce will retain at a canter.
